Gareth Bale has withdrawn from the Real Madrid squad that’s traveling to Germany this week after his blockbuster move to Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning was reportedly blocked by Los Blancos president Florentino Perez.
Both BBC Sport and The Telegraph reported that Bale pulled out, which was later confirmed when Real released their 24-man squad for Tuesday’s clash with Tottenham at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
The Telegraph’s Matt Law wrote that Bale was furious with Perez’s decision to thwart his move to China, while BBC added that the 30-year-old Welshman is “not in the right mental state to play.”
According to reports, a deal was in place between Jiangsu Suning and Bale before Perez changed his mind and demanded a boosted fee, which eventually saw the transaction collapse.
The Chinese transfer window will shut on Wednesday, and Suning appeared to find an alternative to Bale by signing Ivan Santini from Anderlecht on Monday. That move, along with the addition of former Inter defender Joao Miranda, means Suning have now used all their international roster spots.
Bale and his representative have reportedly yet to receive an explanation for the failed transfer, and despite his relationship with Real manager Zinedine Zidane apparently tarnished beyond repair, it appears the winger will be forced to make do in the Spanish capital.
