The law makers in the White House have roled out new visa rules starting this friday which prevents pregnant foreigners from travelling to the country purposely to obtain “American citizenship” for their new born, this is to crack down on the popular birth tourism endemic which also poses security and health risks
The White House announcing the new rules on Thursday evening said that the State Department “will no longer issue temporary visitor (B-1/B-2) visas to aliens seeking to enter the United States for ‘birth tourism.’
Under the new rules,
Visa applicants must now prove they have “the means and intent” to pay for their medical expenses, and convince a consular officer that they have arranged for a doctor willing to provide their treatment.
‘Visitors to the US will be denied temporary visas if it’s found that the primary purpose of travel is for obtaining US citizenship for a child by giving birth in the United States.
The new rules doesn’t apply to the 39 countries mostly in Europe that have the Visa waiver program.
This directive have been sent to all US Embassies around the world and has been applauded by the White House.
